HKMP only syncs players and their movement by default (learn more), but you can install additional mods in Lumafly or Scarab Mod Installer to make things mostly fully synchronized.
- GhostHunter: adds a ghost to your screen representing other players’ damaged enemies, allowing you to know where to hit to help other players
- ESoulLink: adds more HP to enemies based on the number of players, to balance the game’s difficulty so that they can’t be very easily overwhelmed by multiple players
- ItemSync: adds synchronization to items you pickup through the game. It’s normally meant for randomizers, but can be set up without randomizing the items
- Rando Vanilla Tracker: alters ItemSync to synchronize even more stuff. It’s generally recommended that you get this too if you’re using ItemSync
- Randomizable Levers: alters ItemSync to synchronize levers that open doors and locations
Choose the ones you want, and have all players involved get the exact same mods in the Lumafly or Scarab Mod Installer. If you don’t remember how to use the mod installer, look at this example using the HKMP multiplayer mod. If you’re using ItemSync, it’ll be necessary to follow some additional steps below.
Setting up ItemSync without randomizer
ItemSync is complicated and additional steps need to be followed if you’re going to use it. This guide will set up ItemSync in a way that does not randomize the game. You’ll be using ItemSync for handling the items, and then HKMP for seeing the players on your screen.
Creating a non-randomized setting for all users
One of the player must do the following to generate the settings everyone will use:
- Start Hollow Knight after installing the mod
- Start a new save file
- Select ‘Randomizer’ (even though you will not be randomizing things)
- You will see a bunch of options for the randomizer. To disable randomizing completely, while still maintaining synchronization, alter these options:
- Randomized Items: Vanilla
- Novelties: None
- Start Items: None
- Transition Randomizer: None
- Duplicate Items: None
- Start Location: King’s Pass
- Curses: None
- Split Group Randomizer: Disabled
- Other options can be ignored and will not affect your gameplay
- A few more settings are must be changed under ‘More Randomizer Settings’ > ‘Miscellaneous’
- Randomize Notch Costs: Off (gray text color means OFF, yellow means ON)
- Extra Platforms: Off
- Salubra Notches: Vanilla
- Steel Soul: Up to player preference
