This article covers how to host HKMP to people on the internet using ZeroTier. You can alternatively see other ways of hosting on the internet.
Setting up ZeroTier
- Download ZeroTier on all computers that will host or join the server
- One of you (preferably whoever will host the server) should go to ZeroTier Central and click "Create a Network". You will need create an account and login in order to create the network
- Once the network is made, it'll show under the yellow button. Click it to open its settings
- You can copy the ID of your network from here, which will be used to join it
- At this point you and your friends should open ZeroTier from the start menu. This will make a ZeroTier icon show up at the bottom-right in your taskbar
- You and your friends should click the ZeroTier icon in the taskbar and click Join New Network…
- Paste the network ID at the bottom and click Join
- Once you and your friends joined the network, go back to the network's settings in the site and approve all devices in the Members section
- The host can click the ZeroTier icon in the taskbar and go to the joined network > Managed Addresses and click the IP to copy it. Send this IP address to your friends that want to join the server. Ignore the slash and the number after the slash
Starting the server
To host, pause the game, insert your username and a valid port in the server details (use 26950 if unsure) and click “Start Hosting”. Some things to note:
- You don't have to type your own IP to join the server, the mod will automatically connect you to your own server using IP "127.0.0.1", which points to yourself. Don’t give this IP to other users, they should be using a different IP given by this guide in the other sections
- To change server settings such as whether PVP is enabled, learn more about chat commands
- If you're interested in leaving your server running while your game is closed, learn to use the standalone server instead of hosting inside the game
